Emmett is in the Payette River Valley several
miles below the Black Canyon Dam and Reservoir. The Payette River has always
been a big asset for the area especially for irrigation. The Black Canyon Dam
was built in the 1930s to allow for irrigation water diversion. That use
continues today but it has also become a very popular recreation facility for
the water skiers and jet skiers. It is close for those in the Treasure Valley to
come use after work or on the weekends.
Emmett features a large park near its center
with community swimming pools, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, picnic areas and
more. Gem County itself boasts numerous majestic natural wonders for residents
and visitors alike. You'll find mountains, canyons, desert sand dunes,
whitewater rafting, wolves, wild horses and more. We're also nationally known
for our hiking trails, horseback riding and rock/gem hunting opportunities.
